Maroof Raza acts as the Board of Advisor – Strategic Risk and Global Geo Political Expert with IIRIS. He comes armed with more than 20 years of experience as a mentor, anchor, correspondent, lecturer, writer and a commentator on issues of National Security and Strategic Affairs. His in-depth knowledge, experience, and his association with leading TV channels including TIMES NOW, NDTV, BBC & more makes him one of the most sought after speakers internationally on the subjects of National and International Risk and Security Affairs.
Since 2007, Maroof has been associated with TIMES NOW as their Strategic Affairs Expert and Consulting Editor, and appears frequently on the channel. Apart from his appearances on news debates, he has anchored and presented a 20 part series on the Indian armed forces, titled ‘Line of Duty’, whose episode on the Siachen Glacier won an Award in the military documentary section at the Film Festival in Rome in 2005. This TV series has entered the Limca Book of Records as India’s first military reality show.
He is the Mentor of Security Watch India and is often invited to lecture on India’s foreign policy & security concerns in India and abroad at Indian missions as well as by international think-tanks. From NDA to NDC and LBSNAA , he is an esteemed lecturer at all the leading Indian government and military institutions.
Educated in India (at Mayo College, Ajmer and St. Stephen’s College, Delhi), and subsequently in England (at King’s College, London and at Cambridge University), Maroof has served in the Indian Army’s Grenadiers, Mechanized Infantry Regiments, and as an instructor at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, Delhi, the Henry L. Stimson Centre, Washington and the War Studies Department of King’s College, London.
A thoughtful and eloquent author, Maroof Raza writes a regular column in the popular Indian magazine, THE WEEK. The books authored by him include Low-Intensity Conflicts (1995) Wars, No Peace over Kashmir (1996), Generals and Governments in India and Pakistan ( 2001 ) and Confronting Terrorism (2009). He is also the General Editor of a Military Affairs series of Har Anand Publications (in India) since 2001. He is the editor-in-charge of a new monthly magazine, “Fauji India” and also publishes a magazine titled ‘Salute’.
